According to SteelOrbis, Indonesian steel producer PT Krakatau Steel has declared a force majeure situation following a fire on July 19, 2026, in the Continuous Tandem Cold Mill (CTCM) area of its cold rolling facility in Cilegon. Local media reports indicate that the incident has disrupted the production of full-hard cold rolled coils (CRC).
Currently, PT Krakatau Steel is assessing the impact of the incident on its ongoing operations and has not yet disclosed the volume of production affected by the fire. Additionally, the company has not provided an estimate of the financial damages incurred or a specific timeline for the rehabilitation and reactivation of the CTCM production area.
However, other operational sections surrounding the cold rolling facility remain unchanged and continue to operate normally. The facilities are still capable of producing soft cold rolled coils (CRC) through the batch annealing furnace, as well as producing acid-pickled and oiled hot-rolled steel through the continuous pickling line.
PT Krakatau Steel management has stated that necessary measures have been initiated to repair the CTCM area and return it to production as soon as possible. Furthermore, the company intends to collaborate with other domestic CRC producers in Indonesia to maintain inventory and meet the market demand for hard cold rolled coils during the production downtime.
